/// SYSTEM OVERVIEW
Affordable Human Augmentation
We are building a functional exoskeleton arm that is affordable and replicable. Instead of using expensive industrial components, this project fuses muscle sensors (EMG) for speed with brainwave sensors (EEG) for safety.
The frame is built using a combination of 3D Printed parts and Aluminum Flat Bar available at local hardware stores. This hybrid structure gives us the strength of metal to support heavy motors, but keeps the cost low.
How It Works
To make the arm feel natural without costing thousands of dollars, we split the control system in two:
- Brain Control (Safety): A headset monitors your focus levels. The arm only activates when you are concentrating, preventing accidental movements.
- Muscle Control (Movement): Sensors on your arm detect the electrical signals your muscles make before you move. This allows the robot arm to move instantly with you.
Current Progress
We are currently building the "Gauntlet" (the hand section). We are using small, inexpensive servos and fishing line tendons to create a grip strong enough to crush a soda can, controlled entirely by flexing your forearm.
